Orca Health Releases Update to Award-Winning ‘Decide’ Patient Education Apps

June 3, 2021

Orca Health, Inc. is proud to announce the release of its latest update to the critically acclaimed and award-winning Decide Series Applications. Since releasing the first Decide app on the App Store in 2011, Orca’s Decide Series has grown to a robust suite of apps, covering everything from the Spine, Knee, Shoulder, Hand, Foot, Hip, Heart, Mouth (Dental), Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) and Eye. These apps have been downloaded millions of times and are used every day by people all over the world, including healthcare providers, students, educators, patients, and many others.

Orca’s Decide applications are the most accessible and powerful education and engagement apps on the Medical App Store. As an effective teaching and learning tool, utilizing Orca’s unique multi-sensory 3D approach, the Decide Series strengthens users’ comprehension and retention of key anatomical and medical information.

Decide 6.0 brings an in-app subscription that allows users to view all of Orca’s world-class multi-sensory content with a simplified and improved user interface. Enhanced clarity of content and ease of use make the Decide apps particularly effective for those with lower health literacy, patients with English as their second language, and the elderly.

The fully interactive 3D anatomical models can be manipulated with the touch of a finger. Each Decide application also includes multiple animated 3D videos and images depicting common conditions, as well as surgical and nonoperative treatments. This latest update also includes a new Spine model, with nerve pathways and a new, robust Knee model.

Additionally, there are hundreds of dynamic stretching and strengthening rehabilitation videos that can be used by patients on the path to recovery.

“This update to our Decide series apps makes them the perfect teaching and learning tool for students, patients, and healthcare providers around the world,” said Nelson Wittwer, Orca Health CTO. “Orca Health’s multi-sensory and immersive approach to patient education transcends language and literacy,” Wittwer continued. “That makes the Decide apps as effective in Brazil, as they are in Boston or Bangladesh.

Orca’s subscription model allows users to make use of one or more of the Decide applications for as long as needed. Combined with Orca’s new content feedback tool, the subscription model will support the ongoing production of new content, such as 3D conditions, procedures, and physical therapy videos.

In concert with Decide 6.0, Orca will also make significant updates to their enterprise solutions. Orca’s enterprise solutions include more sophisticated applications that leverage their multi-sensory content to create unparalleled tools around shared decision making, patient engagement, patient-reported outcomes, patient satisfaction surveys, EHR integration, home exercise programs, informed consent, patient activation analytics, and the patient experience.
